Talk to your reps' office staff. Share your stories/struggles with them. Then sometimes you get to meet your congress rep. Go to nearest universities. Check out departments that are doing immigration research. Volunteer to share your story with them.
This way, you work for a cause as well as build your social network. Once you get your GC, you will see that you have all these new people you never knew them before.
A decision that I took few months back was to force IV core to agree to opening a state chapter in IL. Now I feel that initiative has reaped benefits as I am gaining contacts in local, state governments, immigration activists and also like minded people from neighboring states. This would not have happened if I had got a GC on a platter and did not have to struggle.
Now stop whining and do some action. ;)

It would be naive and untenable for us to openly ask the lawmakers to limit H1-Bs even while we ourselves on the same visa (and will be for the near future) - it amounts to tacitly acknowledging that H1-Bs are somehow harmful to this country. It wouldn't be any better than numbersUSA saying out with the immigrants even as they themselves are descendants of immigrants.
Our "friends" would love a deal like that .. first use all legal immigrants to oppose the 12 million illegals, then use us to get rid of H1-B, next use us against FB applicants and finally when EBs are too small a group to stand up for themselves, crush them with a sledgehammer !! Cant think of a more elegant application of divide and conquer. So, sorry we are not going to strike any sort of a "deal" with the other side - because the only deal that works for them is out with ALL immigrants. There is no FIFO in current system. There NEVER WILL BE as long as so-called Chargeability areas ( country quotas) exist. Mark my words, we may at best get the quota extended to 10% (if STRIVE or something similar passes), but the quotas are here to stay. Guy from a so-called ROW country will always get his GC ahead of you.
Have you read about 'Alternate Charegeability'? Read about it in Mathew Oh's website. It means a guy/gal from India can marry a Sri Lankan or Pakistani and use his/her country as chargeability! A person is getting ahead of others by marrying outside your country! What's your brilliant idea to stop that. I can already see some guys posting 'IV should make banning marriage outside the chargeability their Top #1 agenda, as people use it to cut the line'

Is this something that will be impacted by the Jul17th: no Labor substitution rule or are they completely different..
To be more accurate, it is not porting I-140, it is retaining your old priority date, and using it with your new I-140 petition.
When you move, your new company will have to start the GC process from the begining - Labor, I-140. It is just that when they file your new I-140, you will have to provide a copy of your old one and request to keep the old priority date.
I think there are some requirements to get this right - one of them being your job classification should be the same. There is a thread on this subject somewhere on this forum, you can dig it out and ask questions there.

All officials have talked about processing 60k visas in a month to avoid visas going waste.
None was honest enough to say the unused visas expire on 09/30 NOT 06/30.
So, why the mad rush to give out all visas by 06/30?? We all know why..

It is not his lunch. We should not see all this as a zero sum game. We all ought to learn not to get dragged into meaningless Eb2 v/s Eb3 fight. It doesn't help anyone. Some of us in IV core had the opportunity to see this situation very closely and witness how it plays out in Washington. No matter who says/starts Eb2 v/s Eb3 fight, you will not get any different response from IV.
Our position and work on this situation is very clear. We are all in this together and we should all help each other out instead of pulling each other down. This is the only way to fix the problem.

GC Status:
I am seeing that reedandbamboo is considering for EB2 only. We have to include EB3 too for law-suit. I beleive that we will have more than 1000 people if we inlcude all categories.
I will give 200$( 100$ for me and 100 $ for my wife)
Ofcourse all categories are included...EB2/EB3, I/C/ROW...anyone who is unhappy with USCIS random processing and retrogression of the dates is welcome to join the fight.
Whoever thinks they are in: please send ur Name, Ph# and email ID to GCSTATUS or me.
We are not collectiong money yet..just a pledge. As soon as we hit the required # of pledges, then we start the money collection. This will ensure that it is not one those efforts that starts, but gets buried due to people not participating. If we do not have enough people interested to fund a lawsuit...we don't move forward....simple !!! The helpless situation we have been put into...has to be backed by numbers.

Roger and BECsufferer, I hear your arguments and you two have a valid point of view. We need to do something at the least. Not doing anything is not an option.
However, please understand, we are asking for "fair" and "equitable" treatment for those who are already inside the country and devoted sufficient time of their life here. To me this means "justice." If you are constantly denied justice then there is constitution to protect the rights.
We are not asking for their "help" or "favor". Although immigration is a privilege, there is a law that governs it and it seems it is possible that EB Indians are targeted by this administration. Infact in good times of this country we have done it a lot of favor instead of our home country. Now is the time to ask for "rights" for our contribution.
My question is, if Americans are distressed and EB India are cause of it, why did they let us in in the first place? Well, culture has tremendous impact on people. Looking at the state of our country, what have we become in last 63+ years? Major percentage of population still live under poor living conditions. We are one of the most corrupted countries in the world. Some people want to live in denial. Boasting about greatness that doesn't exist is of no use to the current and future generations. We have to make our country great by changing the conditions. In order to do that, first we need to acknowledge that there are serioous issues. Unless we all unitedly agree that the conditions are pathetic and will worsen, nothing is going to change.
Agree 100%. You have to acknowledge that there is a problem before you can fix it. And I have no shame in accepting that there are problems. I am also proud of where India has reached in the last 20 years or so (especially since some of the purely socialist policies became capitalist leaning). Today Indians are giving Americans some serious and tough competition for jobs, not an easy feat. According to me, things are always grey - there is no black and white. So be proud of your achievements, and learn to accept problems and work on them is my motto in life.
I consider myself a pro-business and a not-so-emotional person. I go where I see a business opportunity. Right now I see great opportunities waiting to be grabbed in India, and I am going back in pursuit of them. India or the US - I know that I will be happy in either place. Like someone said earlier, happiness can be found anywhere, as long as your priorities are straight and you know what they are.

If you expect the IV core to dedicate it's time JUST for a particular secction of people, then you need to justify that demand.
In your opinion, EB3 is a LOWLY category as compared to EB2. So it is not enough that Nurses feed from it and just about EVERYONE else feeds from it. To top it off, overflow from eb1 goes FIRST to eb2 and then (and almost NEVER) to eb3. SO Eb2 gets a fair chunk of the greed cards, and over and above that you now want the IV core to further drop everything else and help JUST eb2 out? And who should make this demand? None other than someone who is trying to BREAK the community up into Eb2 vs Eb3.

Just want to let you know that I am still VERY MUCH against porting. But neither that is the issue we are handling here nor the other issue is as urgent as this one.
Dividing IV on the Lines on EB2 or EB3 or on basis of ROW/India is something i just dont like. United we stand !!!!!! .
I saw couple of threads earlier from you which talks against porting of EB3 to EB2 - i believe you had some lawsuit idea there for not allowing BS+5 to port to EB2 which is think i highly divisive and unfair on certain peoples
Lets come up with ideas without stepping on each others shoe and i'm 100% willing to join.
